Earlier this evening, news broke that Tottenham Hotspur are considering signing Kephren Thuram as a midfield option.
According to SpursJourno on X, The North London side are just one of the clubs monitoring the Juventus player, with Thuram joining what is reportedly a long list of options for Spurs.
Despite the interest, nothing is currently advanced. However, if Spurs were to bite the bullet and sign the Frenchman, what should Spurs fans hope to expect from him?
Player background
Kephren Thuram joined Juventus from Nice in 2024 for just over £30 million. The 25-year-old made 167 appearances in France, scoring 9 goals and registering 13 assists.
Now, Thuram has made 96 appearances for Juventus whilst again scoring 9 goals and assisting 13. During his time as a professional Thuram has primarily played as both a box-to-box and defensive midfielder, with 143 games played as an 8 and 88 as a 6.
Something that Tottenham have been lacking in recent seasons is availability - in particular fitness wise. Spurs experienced more ACL injuries than wins at home in 2026. However, Thuram's injury record is an impressive one. The midfielder has missed just 18 games due to injury in the last 5 years, a remarkable record for an outfield player.
Compare this to James Maddison who in the same time period has missed 100 games due to injury and Dejan Kulusevski with 78 matches, the difference is plain to see.
Player profile
During the 2025/26 season, Kephren Thuram highlighted himself as a solid tackler of the ball, averaging over 2.24 tackles per 90, ranking in the top 15 percentile of players in his position across the entire Serie A. Paired alongside these promising numbers is his lack of yellow cards which stood at 2 last season which was again another problem at Tottenham, with key players such as Romero and Bentancur regularly receiving bookings.
When playing as an 8 during his time at Nice, Thuram thrived off drifting into the left inside channel in a 4-3-3, paired with the left fullback playing high and wide to increase width whilst in possession. During the 2021/22 season, Thuram completed 10 crosses which then increased to 25 during the 2022/23 season, emphasising the threat he offers when allowed to drift off the left and provide service into the penalty area.
Excluding last season, Thuram has never ranked outside the top 16 percentile for successful dribbles indicating his capabilities in dropping deep to receive the ball of his defenders before carrying the ball upfield. This along with his tall frame allows him to eat up ground and get stuck in with ground duels.
Thuram primarily plays in a double pivot when positioned deeper in midfield, once again allowing for both fullbacks to push wide - something that Porro in particular will thrive off of. Once the ball has made its' way up the pitch, Thuram is capable of arriving late into the final third before becoming a goal threat.
Writers thoughts
Despite Thuram certainly not being a bad player and having qualities that could contribute, the potential signing feels like a midfield profile we already have in Lucas Bergvall or Rodrigo Bentancur, who are strong carriers of the ball. What Tottenham desperately need is a pass-first midfielder, someone who can dictate the tempo of play with a high passing range.
The player also seems to not be a signing that would move the needle. With other players out there who fit the profile we need such as Adam Wharton and Anjelo Stiller, it feels like another opportunistic target on the cheap as opposed to a player that lifts the midfields standards.
